Yesterday we heard the news that one of Hollywood's finest passed away. Maureen O'Hara was 95 years old.
Just last year, she was presented with an Oscar for 'Lifetime Achievement'. The inscription read - "To Maureen O'Hara, one of Hollywood's brightest stars, whose inspiring performances glowed with passion, warmth and strength".
O'Hara starred in many films but she is most known for her roles in How Green Was My Valley (1941), Miracle On 34th Street (1947), Sitting Pretty (1948), The Quiet Man (1952), The Parent Trap (1961) and McLintock! (1963).
She was born Maureen FitzSimons in Ireland but later changed her name to Maureen O'Hara.
O'Hara had one child, a daughter, Bronwyn. She was born in 1944. Bronwyn's father was American director, William Houston Price.
In 1946, O'Hara became an American citizen. However, she kept her Irish citizenship too.
Over the years, she had wonderful friendships with Hollywood's elite.
A cute story: she was having lunch with Lucille Ball one day when Lucille first met her future husband, Desi Arnaz for the first time.
O'Hara was John Wayne's favourite actress. They were also very close friends. They starred in five films together. She spoke of John Wayne with high esteem, "Speaking as an actress, I wish all actors would be more like Duke (John Wayne)...and speaking as a person, it would be nice if all people could be honest and as genuine as he is. This is a real man".
On the news last night, the reporter claimed that O'Hara was listening to the music from the film, The Quiet Man, when she passed away.
All of the credited cast members of Miracle On 34th Street are now deceased. She was the last living cast member.
